54 Members of Salem Fire Shave Heads to Support Colleague

The Eagle Tribune reported the news today.

The Eagle Tribune reported today that 54 members of the Salem Fire Department have stepped up to shave their heads in support of Capt. Steve McKenna, who is battling a form of cancer that leaves him with only months to live.

The Stage 3 cancer was diagnosed in McKenna's digestive tract in 2009.

Shaving their heads is just one way that firefighters in Salem are working to help out.

Salem firefighters are also hosting an event at the Radisson/Center of New Hampshire in Manchester on June 29.

The event will run from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. and tickets, like the shirts, are $20 each.

Shirts, helmet stickers, bumper stickers and wrist bands will also be sold at the event, along with raffles and a cash bar.

McKenna's experience as a firefighter includes active roles as a firefighter, officer, NH Fire Academy instructor and member of FEMA MA-TF1.
