What Is Family Promise?

Family Promise of Greater Rockingham County is the newest chapter in the national program that provides transitional housing for homeless families with children. What makes them special is that the housing comes with help and guidance to help them overcome the issues that led to their homelessness.

For as much stability as possible in their lives, school age children stay in their own schools.

Nationally 77% of Family Promise families find a home within 3 months. This chapter of Family Promise will draw families from fourteen towns in western Rockingham County. Volunteers from all the participating donor congregations -churches, synagogues and mosques - provide the food and friendship as the families spend one week at a time at each of the donor congregations, evenings, overnight, and mornings. During the day the families go to the day center to address issues, find jobs, wash clothes and take showers.

The $138K annual budget must cover such expenses as the large van and driver for taking families to the day center, the day center rent and utilities, and a full time director to help the families get back on their feet. For more information, look for this Family Promise on facebook.
