AFP-NH Statement on 83% Hike in NH Gas Tax: Representative Campbell Should Not Play Shell Games with Working Families
WINDHAM – Americans For Prosperity (AFP) New Hampshire State Director, Corey R. Lewandowski, issued the following statement regarding today’s move to increase the state’s tax on gasoline 83%.
“Despite gasoline prices being at record highs, Representative Campbell obviously believes that the hard working families in this state are not paying enough to fill up their tanks,” said Corey R. Lewandowski, State Director of Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire. “His move to raise the gas tax 83% demonstrates how wildly out of touch he is with the hard working people of this state and how much he is willing to burden them to increase state revenues and grow government.”
Representative Campbell’s bill will not include the proposed increase in vehicle registration fees but will raise the state tax on gasoline 83% rather than the 67% increase contained in the original bill. AFP-NH Honorary Chairman, Tom Thomson, offered testimony against the legislation (HB 617) yesterday. In addition, the House’s passage of a bill to increase the tax on heating oil (HB 185) and the effort to increase electricity rates through the RGGI cap-and-trade scheme, will place additional burdens on New Hampshire citizens with higher energy costs.
“Representative Campbell should not play shell games with the people of NH’s money. Rather than replacing one fee with a higher tax, our leaders should be looking for ways to save people money and allow them to keep more of their paychecks,” added Lewandowski. “It’s time for the War on Energy Consumers to end and for citizens to receive relief from their leaders; not more taxes.”

The average family is paying over $300 per year, per car, due to the reduction in road repair and maintenance. Wear and tear on the car, lower gas mileage due to poor road conditions, lost time and gas due to delays and detours.
THAT is downshifting.

Why, in times like these, w/unemployment, the economy and the debts our children are facing (I'm in my mid-seventies...I don't worry like my kids do) do we always have to find it necessary to even bring up the subject of TAXES?

Agreed- this is the wrong time to be increasing fuel prices! Speaking of crushing gasoline prices taking a toll on working families (and for that matter home heating oil prices), let’s not forget a bipartisan group of 53 United States Senators wrote a letter to Mr. Obama last month urging him to approve the Keystone XL pipeline without further delays. Note: Sen. Shaheen did not sign this letter. A new route through Nebraska that avoids environmentally sensitive areas is now approved by state officials. This project will create 20,000 new jobs and put downward pressure on what we pay at the pump. $4.00 - $5.00 for a gallon of regular gasoline is NOT acceptable. This pipeline is urgently needed - in fact construction should have started years ago! Millions depend on an vehicle in their daily lives and these ridiculous prices we have been paying without end over the last four years are damaging the chance for any economic recovery. Enough of the green energy taxpayer funded bailout boondoggles (too many to list here). Unemployment is too high and our economy is shrinking. Bottom line is the people need cheaper fuel NOW! Let’s get this country moving again!

Which brings up yet another point. We are in need of fuel: fuel for heating, fuel for traveling, fuel for cooking. And yet, these yahoos look at all this green-energy stuff like it's going to go on-line overnight! The solar-panel industry was a drag, not to mention a bankrupting embarrassment, not to mention the associated batteries.
So, the Keystone pipeline project has a "Go!" all the way up to the White House where it's stalled. and will probably stay stalled.
It's all part of the 'agenda' to take this once great-nation down. No drilling, no fracking....no fuel.

: Eisenhower finished 61st out of 164 at West Point, but later finished first at the Army's Command and General Staff School. West Point is ranked as the best college in America by Forbes.
: Reagan's record is on display at his museum at Eureka college
: Bush and McCain just hauled off and released theirs to the public. Bush was a "C" student and McCain finished near the bottom of his class at Annapolis

Most presidential nominees (at least of late) do not release their grades from college. Romney hasn't. John McCain disclosed his class rank in 2007, but not his grades. John Kerry made his Yale transcript public only after he lost the 2004 election. Sarah Palin didn't talk about her grades until after the 2008 election. One exception is Joe Biden, who released his undergraduate transcript in 1987 as a form of damage control.

Bush's college records were leaked, Bush did not release them.

John the number of jobs ... in the US... that might happen is under a thousand.
The gas will not stay in the US but will be piped to a waiting fleet of ships.
Clean up from a single spill of this kind of oil takes forever because the oil is mixed with sand which sinks to the bottom of rivers, and the sand suspended in the oil is very abrasive and actually wears out the pipeline quicker.
This is good for oil companies, and they are already the richest companies in the world... Taking money out of your pocket so you won't even want to repair your roads and bridges...

Americans have been putting up with four plus years of record high fuel prices! The bottom line is we need lower cost oil and gasoline to promote economic growth and price stability. Yes it’s an inconvenient truth to many liberals. This means producing our way out of this situation, opening up oil drilling and building new refineries. Notice the word “PRODUCING” in the last sentence – not speeches or more twaddle about weather stripping, tire pressures or someday getting viable electric cars. The fact is not one new refinery has been built in the U.S. in 35 years. Instead of meeting this challenge Obama’s solution is continued delays to Keystone XL. We are talking about 20,000 real U.S. jobs – not government subsidized phoney jobs and putting downward pressure on fuel prices. Billions have been wasted on “Green” companies that go bankrupt at the expense of America taxpayer. We need a crash program right now to boost domestic supplies and produce more gasoline!

As the CEO of this organzation, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barrack Obama is our Oresident and that our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way. To compensate for these increases, our prices would have to increase by about 10%. But, since we cannot increase our prices right now due to the dismal state of the economy, we will have to lay off sixty employees instead. This has really been bothering me since I believe we are family here and i did'nt know how to choose who would have to go. So, this is what I did. I walked through the parking lot and found 60 obama bumper stickers on our employees cars and have decideed these folks will be the ones to let go. Frankly, fuel taxes & tolls-collected should cover highway maintenance. Hunting & Fishing license fees should cover stocking, etc.
My beef is to those who plan to hike w/inadequate planning: food, clothing & access. such as flashlights, matches, etc.
No, they come equipped w/a cell phone and a GPS and, as usual, expect someone else to take over the 'responsibility'. Yes: responsibility. Remember 'responsibility?
Trail accidents will happen, so maybe some type of insurance for amateur and experienced hikers.
However, for those "taking a stroll" at 5pm on a Saturday afternoon, armed w/a cellphone and GPS(?) ...they're on their own. Maybe a $10.00 - $25.00 surety-bond or insurance-policy that would apply to those 'whim-hikers'. No bond or insurance? The hiker picks up all expenses.
